Brazilian Cup finalists defined after Wednesday matches

São Paulo and Flamengo are finalists of the Brazilian Cup (Copa do Brasil). The two clubs won their clashes this Wednesday (16) and guaranteed R$ 30 million each for a place in the decision.

The champion will receive R$ 70 million for winning the title. The CBF pays a historic prize in this edition of the most democratic competition in the country. The entity distributes around R$ 500 million to the 92 participating clubs.

The two semifinals were sold out at Morumbi and Maracanã this Wednesday (17). More than 120,000 fans attended the games in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The first match of the Brazilian Cup (Copa do Brasil) final will be played on September 17th. The final will be on the 24th of September. Games will be played on two Sundays.

The games

São Paulo was the first to guarantee a place in the final of the competition. Tricolor beat Corinthians, 2-0, at Morumbi, and took advantage of the opponent. In the first leg, Corinthians won 2-1. The goals for the classification were scored by Wellington Rato and Lucas, both in the first half. With the victory in the presence of 62,093 paying fans, São Paulo arrives for the second time in a Brazilian Cup (Copa do Brasil) final and goes in search of the unprecedented title of the competition.

Later, Flamengo qualified in the final. In front of 60,112 fans, Rubro-Negro beat Grêmio, by 1 to 0, in Maracanã. The winning goal was scored by Arrascaeta, in the 28th minute of the second half. In the first leg, the cariocas won by 2-0, in Porto Alegre. It is the ninth time that the Gávea team reaches the final of the Brazilian Cup (Copa do Brasil).
