53 years ago, the Brazilian tradition in football became hegemony. After the 1958 and 62 titles, Brazil lacked the third star in the yellow shirt, dreamed of in 66, but conquered in 70.
Mexico, host of the World Cup, witnessed the greatest national team of all time, chosen by the BBC as “best team” in history. Commanded by Mário Jorge Lobo Zagallo, Canarinho was crowned champion with the unforgettable 4-1 victory over Italy, on June 21, 1970.
Unforgettable because it was at the Azteca Stadium, in Mexico City, for more than 100,000 people, that Pelé became synonymous with the King, when he reached his third World Cup victory, never equaled until today, in his farewell to the World Cups.

You will hardly see a midfield and attack formed by Pelé, Gérson, Jairzinho, Rivellino and Tostão again. Of the 19 goals scored by Brazil, 17 came from the quintet. Zagallo, champion as a player in 1958 and 1962, organized the team to fit the stars on the field.
Iit is unlikely that another world champion will score goals in all matches of the competition, a feat achieved only by Jairzinho, the Hurricane of the Cup, who was responsible for seven out of six games.
The beauty of the Brazilian game was reflected in the 4-1 final score and in the goals scored. Pelé, with his 1.73m, rose higher than the defender and opened the scoring with a beautiful headed goal, in the 18th minute of the first half. Italy tied with Boninsegna, but were overcome in the second half with the Brazilian show.
From outside the area, Gérson and his Canhotinha de Ouro put Brazil ahead, increased by Jairzinho’s goal. The outcome of the title came with one of the most remarkable goals in World Cups, which culminated in Pelé’s pass for Carlos Alberto Torres, the captain of Tri.
53 years later, it is important to remember those responsible for winning the Tri in the 1970 World Cup, who helped build the weight that the Brazilian national team’s shirt carries in football.
“That squad was truly unforgettable. The football of our stars in Mexico and the celebration of the fans for Brazil are part of my life until today. I would like to congratulate on this date all the athletes, Zagallo, who commanded the team with wisdom, and the other members of the delegation for the historic achievement of Brazilian football in 1970”, said the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues.
