Glory and sadness coexist today in Rio de Janeiro. Flamengo smile as they become the lone leaders of the Brasileirão after the 13th round, while Fluminense continue in free fall as they’re stuck at the bottom of the standings.

Mengão look down on everyone after defeating Cruzeiro at the Maracanã. Pedro, the tournament’s top scorer with six goals, and Fabricio Bruno secured the victory for Tite’s team, which had suffered a temporary equalizer from Matheus Pereira.

The solitary leadership was achieved due to Bahia’s 3-1 defeat at São Paulo. Jonathan Calleri, Ferreira, and Luciano secured the second consecutive victory for Luis Zubeldía’s team, which is in sixth place.

One place higher is Athletico Paranaense, which defeated Vitória 1-0 away in this last round. In contrast, Botafogo couldn’t get past a 1-1 draw against Vasco da Gama, a result that left them in second place, three points behind Flamengo.

In the middle of the table is Atlético Mineiro, which couldn’t get past a 1-1 draw at home against Atlético Goianiense. The visitors took the lead through Luiz Fernando, but Paulinho, with his fifth league goal, salvaged a point for Galo.

Inter continues its inconsistency. It started by winning its visit to Criciúma with a goal from Bruno Henrique but was equalized 10 minutes from the end by a goal from Claudinho.

In a tight tournament with high competitiveness, Fortaleza defeated Juventude 2-1 and climbed to eighth place, seven points behind the leaders. Martín Lucero and Yago Pikachu secured the victory for the Northeastern team, which has achieved three wins and one draw in its last four matches.

Grêmio further sink Fluminense

In one of the most attractive matches of the round, Grêmio ended its streak of one draw and six consecutive defeats by beating Fluminense. At home in Caxias do Sul, in their return to the state of Rio Grande do Sul after the tragic floods, they secured the win thanks to a goal from Gustavo Nunes.

The Porto Alegre team remains in the relegation zone, although they have two games in hand. They are now four points above the bottom-placed Fluminense, which no longer has Fernando Diniz on the bench.

The last Copa Libertadores champion suffered its sixth consecutive defeat. It has only won one match and hopes that the return of Thiago Silva will provide a morale boost to straighten their course.

Paulista derby in the pending match

Palmeiras and Corinthians, with very different current situations, close the round today. Verdão can climb to second place with a win, while Timão are 19th and desperately need  a victory to get out of the relegation zone.
