The 2024 Brasileirão season has already kicked off and Brazilian football feels it, although that hasn’t translated into large crowds so far. The low attendance in several matches, even from the biggest clubs, gave plenty to talk about in the last few weeks.

However, the fourth matchday saw more fans at the stadiums. In fact, it’s the matchday with the highest attendance this year, with an average of 27,823 fans.

The most attended match this time was the state derby known as “Choque-Rei” between São Paulo and Palmeiras, which took place at the Morumbi stadium in front of a crowd of 55,694 fans. Another derby with a large turnout was the clash between Flamengo and Botafogo at the Maracanã, with an attendance of 55,683.

Before this matchday, the opening round had been the most attended with an average of 25,866 spectators. That number dropped to 18,494 in the following round, which took place on weekdays. The attendance rose to 23,060 in the third round before it improved by more than 4,000 fans in the fourth.
