Brasileirão and Copa do Brasil games are postponed due to heavy rains in Rio Grande do Sul

The CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) announced, on the night of last Wednesday (May 1st), the postponement of all Brasileirão matches with teams from Rio Grande do Sul after heavy rains in the state.

In an official note on their website, the top entity of Brazilian football confirmed that they have postponed all commitments of clubs from Rio Grande do Sul in all tournaments (men’s, women’s and youth) until Monday (6th).

In total, ten matches from all competitions organized by the CBF were postponed – three of them from Serie A: Grêmio x Criciúma, Juventude x Atlético-GO and Cruzeiro x Internacional.

The first match that the CBF postponed due to the storm in Rio Grande do Sul was Internacional x Juventude, at Beira-Rio, for the first leg of the third phase of the Copa do Brasil.

The match was scheduled for Wednesday (May 1st), but the white-and-green club notified the CBF that they were unable to travel due to the weather problems.

Which Brasileirão matches were postponed due to the heavy rains in Rio Grande do Sul?

The CBF postponed all matches of clubs from Rio Grande do Sul until Monday (6th). The decision was made after the state of Rio Grande do Sul suffered from torrential rains in recent days.

The entity’s decision temporarily canceled ten matches between the Brasileirão Serie A, Serie B, Serie C, Serie D, Brazilian Women’s Championship and youth tournaments. See the list below:

  • Hercílio Luz x Avenida – Brasileirão Serie D

Tragedy in the South

The storm that has been hitting Rio Grande do Sul since Monday (29th) has recorded 134 cities with problems such as floods, landslides and landslides. According to the Civil Defense balance sheet, 44,600 people were affected – 8,300 are homeless.

The tragedy killed 13 people and 21 others are still missing. The most affected areas are the Central, Vales, Serra and Metropolitan regions of Porto Alegre.
