Botafogo is keeping its strong pace in the Brasileirão. The Rio de Janeiro team beat Red Bull Bragantino by 2-0 last Saturday (15) and has a ten-point advantage in the lead of the tournament. The win also marked Cláudio Caçapa’s last game as Bruno Lage is preparing to debut with the team.
Caçapa’s stint was very important due to the context. Luís Castro, one of the main responsibles for the team’s success, had left the club to coach Al-Nassr and a quick decision had to be made. John Textor, the CEO of Botafogo, contacted Caçapa, who is an assistant at Lyon, and things got on the right course as he won four matches with Botafogo, scoring eight goals and conceding none.

“The feeling is of duty accomplished. They gave me a mission, I arrived and, thank God, I fulfilled it. I fulfilled it well together with everyone, I didn’t accomplish it alone. I leave here today happy with life, with mission accomplished, a great job from the athletes too. This brings me peace and tranquility to continue my career,” evaluated Caçapa.
Botafogo’s football executive director, André Mazzuco, asked to speak at the press conference to thank Cláudio Caçapa for his services and took the opportunity to explain that Bruno Lage’s registration is almost finalized.
“I want to give all our thanks, all our compliments, my “thanks a lot”, the “thanks” from Botafogo. For having interrupted his vacation and having lived this wonderful experience, four games and four wins, zero goals conceded. This group makes us very proud, it has already shown that it can fight until the end. Thanks to the work of everyone who stopped by, Cláudio is one more who will be with us until the end. I want to thank Cláudio, Lúcio Flávio, Herrera, who helped us a lot. We’ve already welcomed Bruno, we’re doing it as lightly as possible, keeping everything we’ve built. Once again, Cláudio, a very strong thank you from us, from John, from everyone who was able to enjoy your time here,” he said.
