Botafogo saw most of the ball for most of the game but failed to capitalize on their dominance on the ball. The home side more than 60% of the ball but lacked the clinical touch in the final third to go all the way. Botafogo created 23 chances in total with six being on target. On the other hand, Goiás created 12 chances with four of them being on target.
With the tie, Botafogo ends the round in 14th position with 19 points won so far.
Goiás remains in the competition’s bottom spot, with only 11 points added, five less than the nearest opponent.
For Botafogo, it means they are now winless in their last two games. Goiás find themselves in a more delicate situation. The stalemate means they are without a win in their last five games. At this rate, they are in grave danger of being relegated come the end of the season.
The goalkeepers were the highlight of the match. Tadeu, again, saved Goiás from defeat. Muto appeared during the game and made great saves. Cavalieri, defending Botafogo, was less demanded, but when he worked he did very well.
For their next outing, Botafogo will have to wait until next Wednesday. They take on Serie B side Cuiabá in the round of 16 first leg of the Copa do Brasil. Goiás are in action on Saturday and will take on 19th place Bragantino in a battle of the struggling sides.
