Benfica is first in the Portuguese league with 74 points, four above its rivals Porto. With the end of the league very close, with only five games to be played, several believe that the team will win the title.

Among many who place them as favorites is the former Brazilian player and goalscorer Jonas. He said that although these are decisive moments the team must keep a cool head and focus on the plan: “We were used to playing these games with a lot of pressure , at this point in the championship all the games are decisive because there is very little left”, he stated in an interview with ATV.

Benfica is preparing to face Gil Vicente this weekend where they hope to be victorious and have the goals of their scorer and league leader Gonçalo Ramos, who has 17 in 25 games and has been with an exuberant performance.

Jonas, former scorer for the red team, recalled his last game against Gil Vicente where they won 5-0 and the Brazilian scored one of the goals: “I remember that game with Gil Vicente at home, we scored with great confidence. At that point, when there are only a few games left, you want to come in strong and show that you are a candidate for the title”, confirmed the striker.

Finally, regarding his former team’s options, he was blunt: “The team had a great season and I am convinced that everything will end well. Benfica will win the title, the fans deserve to celebrate the league again.”

Benfica has not won the league championship since the 2018/19 season, just when the Brazilian forward was part of the squad and was an important piece for the team. The fans are excited to break this four-year drought.
