This fixture was the postponed one from the first round of the Brazilian Championship. The goals for Bahia came from Gilberto who has not been on the score sheet in 13 games and another from Élber.
In the first half, the match was well balanced at the Nilton Santos. Botafogo tried with the attacking and possession approach, while Bahia relied on counterattacks.
The first chance came at the 11th minute following a corner kick which Kanu headed close to the goal.
In the 22nd minute, another chance was recorded when Bahia’s chance headed towards Ernando was deflected by Cavalieri. But in the 41st minute, the Botafogo goalkeeper could not do much, when Gilberto received a sublime cross right inside the goal area and sent in the goal to open up the scoring.
In the second half, the game intensity increased. Botafogo had chances to level the game with Matheus Babi, who lost a big opportunity inside the small area. In the 83rd minute, Daniel exchanged with Juninho Capixaba on the left allowing Élber to open up.
Towards the end, Botafogo grew into the game and grabbed a goal with Pedro Raul but it only proved to be a consolation goal. Things got worse for the home team when Barrandeguy was sent off after a bad foul on Rossi. With a man down, things got difficult and Bahia snatched the victory 2-1.
Both teams return to the field of play for the 13th round of the Brazilian Championship on Sunday. Botafogo makes the classic with Fluminense at Nilton Santos. Bahia goes against Sport in Pituaçu.
