Galo remained on top of the table of the Brasileirão even after the draw, level on points with Internacional. Atlético-MG have an advantage with more victories plus they have played a game less than the gauchos. However, the first place is up for grabs as Flamengo still to play, on Thursday has a run at it against Bragantino and with a win can claim the first position. Fluminense stays in fifth place with 25 points.
Fluminense dominated the first half. The Tricolor were all over Atlético, they played with speed and precision.
An unwanted change occurred early on for the away side just after two minutes into the game. Fernando Pacheco felt pain in his thigh and was forced to give way for Caio Paulista to come on. Few minutes later in the 20th minute, the young striker opened the scoring repaying the faith the coach had in him. Fluminense ended the first half as 1-0 leaders.
After a rough first half for Atlético, the second half was a lot better. Seven minutes in the second period, Guilherme Aran leveled the scoring with a good shot from outside the area. Then from there the home team started to own the game and created lots of chances but failing the convert any. They also forced several saves from Flu goalie Muriel Becker.
Atlético saw their first draw of the competition. They were the only side in the division yet to leave the pitch with a stalemate. The result also ended the Rooster’s winning run as the team came from seven consecutive wins at home in the Brasileirão.
