Atletico Madrid claimed a crucial win against Barcelona and went level on points with top of the table Real Sociedad in La Liga.
Yannick Carrasco scored the decisive goal of the game just on the stroke of half time, driving into the Barcelona goal from midway after goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen rushed out of his goal post but mistimed his run.
It went worse for Barcelona as they also lost defender Gerard Pique to a knee injury on the evening.
Barcelona revealed after the game that the player sprained his knee and would need to be evaluated to know the actual extent of his injury.
The club are yet to give an official statement but latest reports today suggest the defender could be out of action for two months at the very least.
Barcelona barely threatened their opponents and only really came close to troubling the Atletico goal with a header from Lenglet which was saved by Jan Oblak.
The result means Barcelona remain at a lowly 10th in La Liga. They have only 11 points from eight games and find themselves nine points from joint league leaders Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid. Although, they have one game in hand.
For Atletico, the win continued their unbeaten start to their domestic campaign and also saw Diego Simeone claim his first La Liga win over Barcelona after 18 attempts.
For their next outing, Atletico Madrid will welcome Lokomotiv Moscow to the Wanda Metropolitano stadium on Wednesday for their Champions League game before a clash with Valencia at the weekend. On the other hand, Barcelona will take on Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League on Tuesday before a game against Osasuna at the weekend.
