The goals came in the first half. Edson opened the scoring via a header, and Isaque leveled the scoring towards the end of the first half. Asides the goals, the game lacked urgency and consistency from both sides and were totally well deserving of a draw.
The fixture continues yet another poor result for both sides. Atlético and Grêmio have not won six games in the Brasileirão, which justifies their positions in the table. Tricolor won only on their debut in a 1-0 win over Fluminense. Since then, there have been five draws and one defeat.
On the other hand, Dragão grabbed their only win in the second round in the 3-0 over Flamengo. Since then, it has been three draws and three defeats.
Without Maicon and Jean Pyerre, the team’s main creators, Grêmio struggled to create chances.
In a dead ball, Atlético took the opportunity to open the scoring on 10 minutes through Ederson. The only other real chance came when Isaquel leveled the scoring in the 41st minute.
The second half saw no real threat from both sides.
Grêmio, who entered the field in the relegation zone, took a breath. They are now up to 14th position, with eight points but with a game in hand. Atlético-GO still remains at the bottom half of the table. They currently lie in 18th place with six points.
The two teams will play on Thursday for the ninth round. Grêmio will play in an earlier clash against Bahia. Atlético-GO travels to São Januário and will face Vasco later on the same day.
