The game between Atlético-GO and Vasco ended in a goalless draw at the Antônio Accioly on Thursday night.
Vasco were the better side, but failed to bring something out of the game and settled for the draw. The São Januário outfit created lots of opportunities but were kept out by Jean with a man of the match performance.
The draw still puts the visitors in a bad position as they are at the edge of the drop zone sitting one point above their immediate rival Bahia who stays in 17th place with 28 points.
On the other hand, Atlético-GO aren’t far off from the relegation battle, as they will have to keep in a run of good results to keep themselves far from the drop zone. They sit in 12th place, with 35 points, seven more than Bahia at the edge of the drop zone.
The contest was one of Vasco’s best performances of the season despite the stalemate. They took 15 shots on goal, seven more than the host and made six on target. The performance of the home side goalkeeper Jean prevented series of shots from entering, and made saves that kept his side in the game.
Things are looking bright performance wise under the management of coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo, who took in the realm as Vasco new boss. However, he will be out to improve his side regardless and bring in good results in the future to keep Vasco safe from dropping out of the competition.
Both clubs will be looking for a win in their next fixtures on Sunday as Atlético-GO take on Bahia at the Antônio Accioly Stadium while Vasco go against Botafogo in São Januário.
