The FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023 is one of the great events of the year at the international level. After the exciting World Cup in Qatar last year, the eyes of the soccer planet will now be on the event that will bring together the future great stars of the sport.

Brazil is undoubtedly a big candidate to star in the championship, since it showed its credentials by obtaining the last South American undefeated. However, it seems that they will not have one of their great figures, Vitor Roque.

Athletico Paranaense would not authorize Vitor Roque to play the U-20 World Cup for Brazil

As reported by As, Athletico Paranaense would have made it clear to the CBF (Brazilian FA) that they will not give up their young promise for the youth World Cup event. Roque has had a leading role in qualifying his team for the U-20 World Cup, and has even added minutes with the professional squad.

It is striking that a club denies a player to his own country, but Athletico would have made this decision for various reasons. On the one hand, the demanding schedule with triple competition (Brasileirão, Copa do Brasil and Copa Libertadores) would make the club seek to have the maximum possible replacement. On the other, the leadership would not want to risk an injury with the Under-20 frustrating a possible million-dollar sale at the end of the season.

The team at first seemed willing to give up Roque for the World Cup, although not for the preparation friendlies. However, in the end, everything indicates that he will stay in Brazil while his compatriots will seek to succeed in the tournament that will be held from May 20 to June 11 in Argentina.
