Fluminense is sinking deeper and deeper into its crisis. They lost at home in the final minutes against Vitória in the first game without the dismissed Fernando Diniz and remain in last place in the Brasileirão.

Almost eight months after their triumph as Copa Libertadores champions, no one could have imagined this situation. With Marcão as interim coach, bottom of the table and experiencing the worst start in their history in the local tournament.

The Carioca team has only managed to get six points in twelve games, with just one win and eight losses. They have accumulated five consecutive defeats, the latest very painful: at the Maracanã they lost against Vitória, a direct rival in the relegation zone, with a late goal scored by Janderson.

“This is a very difficult moment we are going through, it’s not just now, we’ve been like this for a while. We are training, trying to get out of this situation as soon as possible, and we will achieve it,” said Marcelo, one of the team’s referents. “Unfortunately, it’s no use talking, we have to prove it on the field, the fans have tried to help today, to push us in the game, but I know that one day we will get out of this,” added the former Real Madrid player, who apologized to the supporters.

Flu’s next match, the winner six months ago of the Recopa Sudamericana, is on June 30 against Grêmio. The Tricolor gaúcho is also not picking up its head and is second-to-last, so there will be a lot at stake in that clash.

A little further ahead in the calendar, Fluminense has to cling to the football and emotional incentive that Thiago Silva’s return to the club represents to get out of the bad moment they are going through. In addition, on August 13 they will play the first leg of the Libertadores round of 16, precisely against Grêmio, with the return leg scheduled for August 20 in Rio de Janeiro.
