Always measured, coach Arthur Elias was very pleased with Brazil’s 3-0 victory over Mexico on Wednesday night in the United States, a result that secured the team’s spot in the Copa Ouro final, to be played on Sunday (10). He praised the team’s performance but had some reservations. He did not like the lack of attention from the players in a part of the second half.

“I liked the team’s behavior regarding our game plan until a part of the second half, when, from then on, Mexico, a very qualified team, managed to create opportunities even with one player less. This serves as a learning experience for us, and we will make the necessary corrections,” said Arthur.

“We are becoming more consistent with each game, more dynamic, more efficient, faster, scoring important goals. The way we play taking risks is because we understand the benefits in that,” he evaluated.

According to the coach, with a more comfortable lead (already winning 3-0), the team was affected by relaxation, “this lack of concentration that brings a disconnection to the team,” and as a result, “Mexico grew (in the second half) with their transitional game, which is one of their strengths. In other words, these are corrections we need to make.”

Arthur reiterated that the priority in the Copa Ouro is to prepare the team for the Paris Olympics. However, as Brazil has reached the final, he emphasized that now the team will fight for the title. “We will take to the field in the last game to become champions.”

The coach made sure to mention the rotation of players he has been implementing in the competition as one of the factors contributing to the team’s success so far. He also mentioned the psychological aspect work with the players.

“We need to have a winning mentality. Here in the Copa Oro, we are gaining momentum and consistency. We have only conceded one goal in five games and have had many more chances to score goals than our opponents.”
