Coach Erik Ten Hag included Antony on the bench for the game but the Brazilian winger made his entrance at the start of the second half. His performance was far from dazzling. With every touch of the ball, the visiting fans in the stadium expressed their disapproval, as reported by English journalist Richard Martin, who covers the happenings at Manchester United.
This marked Antony’s second appearance since his return from an absence with United. In the previous game, a Champions League clash against Galatasaray, he came off the bench in the second half during a disappointing defeat just last Tuesday. His absence from the team had been a lengthy one, nearly a month, owing to the investigations.
During this tumultuous period, he faced yet another setback as coach Fernando Diniz dropped him from the Brazilian national team’s roster. The investigation into the alleged assault case involves both Brazilian and English authorities, with Antony cooperating by presenting himself to the Manchester Police on September 28.
