It was a day to forget for Alisson Becker as the Brazilian goalkeeper had a torrid time in goal against Manchester City.

Prior to that, Liverpool had lost their two games in the league and they were hoping to avoid a third successive defeat.

Ilkay Gundogan missed a penalty in the first half but made up for his miss by giving his side the opener in the 49th minute. An interesting outcome from that is that Pep Guardiola confirmed after the game that Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson might be his side’s new penalty taker.

Mohamed Salah was on par to level matters also from the spot after he was brought down by Ruben Dias.

From that moment onwards, it was disaster-class from Alisson that tipped the game in favour of the Citizens.

Two clearance errors from Alisson in the space saw of three minutes saw City race to a 3-1 lead. Gundogan got his second of the night before Raheem Sterling grabbed his third and his 100th goal for Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.

With those two errors, the Brazilian goalkeeper set an unwanted record for himself.

As per Squawka, Alisson is the first Liverpool player to make 2+ errors leading to a goal in a Champions League or Premier League game. The last Reds star to do so was Loris Karius in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

After the game, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was quick to defend his goalkeeper and blamed ‘cold feet’ for his struggles at Anfield on the evening.

Reds captain Jordan Henderson and teammate Georgino Wijnaldum were also quick to defend Alisson after the game despite his errors.

It was a bad day at the office for the28-year-old but a fact remains that he is one of the best goalkeepers in world football.

Alisson will be aiming for a return back to his usual best when Liverpool take on Newcastle for their next Premier League outing. The Reds will also be aiming for a return to winning ways.
