Concentrated in Montreal (CAN) for two friendlies with Canada, the Women’s Main Team held its first training session this Tuesday (24). After starting their preparations, striker Adriana and midfielder Angelina commented on the start of coach Arthur Elias’ work and the team’s next commitment.

“I worked with Arthur five years ago, so I know him very well. He’s a very demanding guy in what he asks us to do. Everyone has to do it with great intensity, that’s his job. That’s what made him so this victorious guy and winning so many titles in his career”, said Adriana.

“The first training sessions were very good at Granja Comary. We had a lot of time because it was just training, but we really enjoyed it. I feel that the group assimilated the information and Arthur’s style of play very well. Of course, there is still a lot to learn, but I believe that our first training sessions were very productive”, added Angelina.

Learning and evolving

Adriana projected the first match against Canada, highlighting the quality of the opponents, but stated that Arthur Elias’ coordination will be essential to emerge with victory.

“It will be a very difficult friendly against Canada. We know the quality of their team, so we need to follow exactly everything that Arthur told us during training and will do here during the week until our first match.”

Adriana arrived at Orlando Pride in 2023 and recently ended her first season in the United States. The striker commented on her experience at the new club and how it has added to her performance with Amarelinha.

“It was my first year in the WSL here in the United States, I faced a lot of obstacles to get here, but it was a year of a lot of learning as well. It was important for my evolution to be playing with athletes that I face here for the National Team, so that gives me a background bigger, a bigger experience to get here and live up to the heights.”

New opportunities

In 2022 Angelina suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury and underwent a long recovery. In 2023, he managed to recover and secured a place on the list for the FIFA World Cup. With the start of Arthur Elias’ work, the midfielder hopes to have new opportunities.

“I’m feeling very good, very confident. I know I didn’t have many minutes of play after my return, but I’ve been training every day. I’m also great physically. Of course there’s the pace of the game in question, but I’m feeling very well and prepared if I have the opportunity to play in these two games against Canada.”

Angelina also reinforced that she misses being on the field for the Seleção.

“I miss wearing hopscotch and, God willing, it will happen in this call-up. I’m prepared and when I have the opportunity on the field I will do my best as always,” she said.

Regarding her position, the athlete reinforced that she is versatile and that this is one of her qualities.

“If necessary, I will be available to use me in other positions, I really like that the coaches can also see this. But from what I’ve heard, I will probably be playing in my position as a midfielder.”
