AC Milan has long been monitoring Emerson Royal and has finally fulfilled its wish. The Brazilian, who has found himself without space at Tottenham due to coach Ange Postecoglou’s decision, will play for the Italian club next season.

The agreement for the transfer had already been finalized in May, although they needed to agree on the transfer fee. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the deal will exceed 15 million euros with bonuses, and he is expected to sign a five-year contract.

The fullback’s desire to join Paulo Fonseca’s team was so strong that he rejected up to five offers from other clubs, according to the same information. AC Milan offered the added incentive of competing in the Champions League this season, although one of the main objectives will be to end Inter’s winning streak, their city rival and Serie A champion.

The Rossoneri have Davide Calabria, the captain entering the last year of his contract, and Alessandro Florenzi, who at 33 years old has limited time left at the club, in that position. Theo Hernandez, as versatile as Emerson Royal, is also another option.

What is clear is that the 25-year-old Brazilian, who previously played for Ponte Preta and Atlético Mineiro, had no place at Tottenham, which became his home on the last day of the summer transfer window in 2021. Pedro Porro, Ben Davies, and Micky van de Ven are some of the players who were prioritized by Postecoglou before him.
