After much speculation about his future, Abel Ferreira finally renewed his contract with Palmeiras until December 2025. The extension was confirmed by the president of the institution, Leila Pereira, in an exclusive press conference for female journalists.
“It was a very big wish of mine to keep such a winning coach, who has been with us for so long,” said the Verdão president. The Portuguese’s contract expired in December 2024 and the leadership had made progress in recent days to extend it before the start of the Paulista Championship.
But beyond those negotiations, the official confirmation of the renewal for another year put an end to the rumors that Ferreira was deposited in Saudi Arabia, in exchange for a multimillion-dollar contract.

Nine titles for Ferreira since he arrived at Palmeiras
The 45-year-old coach is the architect of Palmeiras’ recent golden years, winning nine titles since his arrival in November 2020, including two Copa Libertadores. In addition, he is the winner of the last Brasileirão, a championship he had already won in 2002.
“We are going to continue strong, fighting for as many titles as possible. Winning is always impossible, but we will always be protagonists,” said Pereira, the only woman in charge of a first division team in Brazil.
