In his time with MLS side New York City FC, Torrent led the club to their best ever results in their history, leading them to the semi-finals of their national tournament. At the head of the North American team, Domènec took charge of 60 games, with 29 wins, 15 draws and 16 losses. In that time, the team scored 104 goals and conceded 76.
As a technical assistant, the Spaniard worked with Pep Guardiola at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City. “Hi, I’m Domènec. I’m very happy to be part of this great nation. We will fight to win titles. See you soon. Thank you very much,” said the new coach, in a video released by Flamengo on their social channel.
Torrent signed a contract with Flamengo until December 2021. The technician’s official presentation at Gávea, however, still has no set date.
Up first for Torrent is to start the work aiming at the debut of Mais Querido by the Brazilian Championship against Atlético-MG, in Maracanã, on August 9th.
Domènec is the 12th foreign coach to take charge of Flamengo, being the sixth European to head the Club. He will be the first Spaniard / Catalan to coach the red-black team.
The Spaniard has big shoes to fill considering he is taking over from Jorge Jesus who was able to deliver success to the club in such a short time as manager of the club.
