Caldense suffered an injury in the early stages of the game and it gave Cruzeiro the motivation to go in search of goals.
The Raposa did just that. It was not as smooth sailing as their last outing on the weekend but they still showed much intensity on the evening.
Cruzeiro’s goal came shortly after the start of the game. Régis who scored his first goal in the celestial shirt received an audacious cross from Raúl Cáceres and buried the chance with style.
In the 20th minute, Régis teased up Mauricio with a defensive wrecking pass, but he failed to capitalize and put his side 2 nil up.
Shortly after, Marcelo Moreno had several chances but it was kept away by the defence.
In the 30th minute, Caldense came close to equalizing but André Mensalão was there to keep both Fábio and João Pedro at bay.
There was nothing going in the favor of Enderson Moreira. Marcelo Moreno was the second player to go out injured, leaving the Caldense in limbo after some breath of life into the game and some hope of coming out with a result from the game.
In the second half, the veteran almost got their equalizer after Cacá made an howler and João Victor almost took advantage but sent his shot straight to the post.
Cruzeiro almost responded with a goal of their own shortly after with a header from Régis but it was kept out.
With less action than the first half, Moreira’s men seemed to relax in the second half and held on to their 1-0 lead till the end.
