The manager was not officially presented in person but on Tuesday but Braga sent out a statement on their website giving a full announcement of his appointment.
Carvalhal initially said he was unsure about his future, prompting reports that he could join Flamengo as manager. He was quoted to have said:
“I will try to anticipate what will happen with the coronavirus in October, November and December. And try to find the best way to take an important next step in my career, but at the same time protect my family. Carvalhal said to Sky Sports.
But it would appear the 54-year-old snubbed any interest from Brazil and decided to return to Portugal instead.
“Sporting Clube De Braga inform that it has reached an agreement with the coach Carlos Augusto Soares Da Costa Faria Carlvalhal of Portuguese nationality, born on December 4, 1965, for the conclusion of an Employment Contract under which he will assume the position of Head Coach of his football team. effective in the sporting seasons of 2020/2021 and 2021/2022. The Board of Directors Braga, 28 July 2020”
Carvalhal spent a significant part of his career in England, with three seasons trying to take Sheffield to the English top flight, and one in Swansea, where he arrived in the middle of a fire, trying to prevent relegation in the Premier League and failed.
His appointment would make it the second time he’ll be appointed as Braga coach. Back in 2006, Carlvahal was briefly appointed manager of the club where he only took charge of 13 matches before he left.
