The CBF (Brazilian FA) suspended the competition back in March as was the same scenario with virtually all of football in the country.
However, footballing activities have started to resume gradually and the Brasileirão Série A is set to open its doors for action in just over a month from now.
As it stands, the plan is that the Serie A may return on Sunday, August 9th. Elsewhere, Serie B is scheduled to restart on August 8.
The decision was made on Thursday night in a meeting organized by the CBF together with the National Club Commission (CNC). All 40 clubs participating in both the Serie A and Serie A all had at least a representative in the meeting too.
The set dates and steps to be taken for the safe return of both competitions were proposed by the president of the CBF, Rogério Caboclo. At the moment, all Serie A clubs are in agreement with all the dates and set down measures to be taken when the competition resumes.
There is one final hurdle though. The return of the competition would need a final go-ahead from health authorities in local vicinities. Although, nineteen of the twenty Serie A clubs were willing to play outside their cities if they are not cleared to do so in their own city. Some other competitions have had to resume action in a selected number of stadiums and it remains to be seen if the Serie A might have to follow suit.
For now, all clubs are in agreement to resume action and all things going well, the competition is set to resume in August.
