David Luiz joined the Gunners from Chelsea last summer and was brought in to being experience to the Arsenal lineup.
That has not been the case as the 33-year-old has caused error after error and has been branded a flop by many.
The latest error was his disastrous performance against Manchester City where he caused his side two goals and also got a red card in the space of 25 minutes.
Despite David Luiz accepting blame for his defeat, he insisted that he wanted to remain at the club and also got the backing of head coach Mikel Arteta as well.
As expected, all of these didn’t go well with the fans following the announcement of the contract extensions to David Luiz and a trio of other players.
“David is a really important player for us. He has played most of our matches this season and has been important for the team. His passing, his communication with the team on and off the pitch. He helps everyone.” Technical director Edu said to the club’s website.
Fans blasted the Arsenal board for approving such a deal and took to criticize the club’s transfer business, calling it all a joke.
Elsewhere, Pablo Mari secured a long-term deal after joining the Gunners on loan in January from Flamengo. Despite his injury, he had done enough to impress and was signed permanently.
“We were really pleased with Pablo – his behaviour, the way he is training, his mentality and his quality. Unfortunately, he has that injury but of course we are really happy to keep him for the future.” Club director Edu said on the 26-year-old Brazilian.
The deal for Mari will see Flamengo retain a sell-on clause and will see the club 16 million euros (about R $ 95 million) should the Gunners sell him to another club.
Asides Luiz and Mari, Ceballos also saw his contract extended till the end of the season while Cedric Soares also saw a permanent deal since joining from Southampton on loan in January.
