Lucas Romero left the Raposa to join Argentine giants Independiente last summer. The midfielder has featured in a decent number of games since he signed for the club last July, making 23 appearances for the club between games of the Copa Sudamericana, the Argentine Championship, the Superliga Cup and the Argentine Cup.
With the Argentine side now going through financial difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic, there is a chance they could let the 26-year-old re-join his former side. Coupled with that, the Argentine is yet to convince on his home soil, failing to find the back of the net yet in all competitions.
As at today, Cruzeiro president Sérgio Santos Rodrigues confirmed the club have put in an official offer for the midfielder and are only awaiting a response from Independiente.
“There is a proposal made. We depend on him. We know the situation of Cruzeiro. We have to be austere.” Santos said in a live broadcast via the club’s channel.
“To have management down to earth. The proposal is made, really. We are depending on him, on his situation at his club. If the fans want to engage, let’s go to the hashtag ‘Closes Romero’, ‘Romero, accept the proposal’. I already know that his brother posted a photo today on Instagram, talking about Cruzeiro. His family also wants to come.”
Romero is a fan favorite at the Mineirão having already starred for them for three years between 2016 and 2019.
For Cruzeiro, Romero previously played 152 games for the club and scored three goals. A response from Independiente is expected over the coming days.
