Following weeks of negotiations with Japanese side Nagoya Grampus, the 33-year-old would see his second spell with Timão.
“The good son to the house returns, Faithful! The striker is back in Coringão to start his third spell at the club! He signed a contract until 2023 with Timão! Welcome, Jo!” a statement said on Corinthian’s Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon.
Prior to his departure from Japan, Jô always made it clear that his only intention was to return to Brazil with former side Corinthians.
The Corinthians board were also pleased to have the forward back and never for once closed the doors on his possible return.
Jô’s delight after re-signing for the club was well echoed in a video statement he made shortly after his announcement.
“It is a great pleasure to be wearing this Corinthians shirt again, for which I have a great love, gratitude and respect. And of course, guys, come back to my house with this bunch of crazy people. Thank you very much and God bless you all. Go Corinthians!”
Jô has a winning record with Timao and was a very key part of the club’s title winning side back in 2017, contributing 18 goals from 34 appearances at the time.
Following the club’s title triumph back then, the Brazilian left the club after the end of that season and chose to make the far trip to Japan to join Nagoya Grampus.
In his two seasons with the Japanese squad, Jô also grew to be a key figure for the Grampus, scoring 33 goals in 71 appearances for the club.
The decision to re-sign the forward comes after the club saw a departure in that department. A mutual agreement saw Corinthians release Vagner Love earlier this month and it was believed the striker was off to join his former side CSKA Moscow.
Jô is expected to be a like for like replacement for Vagner. The experienced striker will now compete with Argentine forward Mauro Boselli for a regular starting berth in the Corinthians lineup.
Tiago Nunes would be more than happy to welcome the striker who has lots of experience and would have no problems adapting to the league, having performed there well before.
