According to Goal, Spurs have been in constant contact with his agent and are ready to table a £16m offer which has been given the green light by club director Daniel Levy.
After a difficult three-year spell in Italy with Roma and Fiorentina, Gerson returned to Brazil with Flamengo where he played a crucial role in his team’s Campeonato Brasileiro and Copa Libertadores triumphs in 2019 as well as appearing in the FIFA Club World Cup final.
His return to his home country cost his current club a record £10.5m making him the most expensive player to ever be signed by a Brazilian club and as such, Flamengo are reluctant to sell.
With a current contract that runs the way up to 2023, the player himself is reportedly happy to stay at the club under current manager Jorge Jesus in order to break into the Brazil international set up.
As confirmed by Marcos Santos, Gerson’s father, Borussia Dortmund Arsenal are another team who are interested in acquiring his services apart from Jose Mourinho’s team.
“Nobody knew about Arsenal, but now that I’m telling you, everyone will know,” said Marcos Santos. “Everyone you hear there is true. But they only probed,” he added when asked about Dortmund and Spurs.
Gerson will definitely make a good addition to Jose Mourinho’s team with his versatility and talent and with his age, he could develop into one of the leading midfielders in the continent should he decide to have another crack at European football. That though remains to be seen.
The Brazilian has been an integral part of Flamengo’s recent dominance, winning the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, Copa Libertadores, Supercopa do Brasil and Recopa Sudamericana during his time in Rio de Janeiro.
The midfielder was also named in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A Team of the Year, which also shows how much he has progressed since his return to Brazil.
Currently, Gerson has managed four goals and four assists in 41 appearances since his debut for Flamengo. In his football career, he has 10 goals and 13 assists in 154 outings in all competitions.
