Following a successful debut season as manager, the club’s hierarchy are pleased with the 65-year-old’s performances so far and are happy to see him extend his stay.
Since taking charge in June last year, Jorge Jesus led the Flamengo side to lift three trophies, winning the Copa Libertadores, Brazilian Serie A and Campeonato Carioca.
The former Sporting Lisbon manager confirmed the details of his contract extension via his social media account. As per reports, the new deal will see the Portuguese earn around €4million.
“My representatives reached an agreement today with Flamengo’s board of directors to renew my contract for another year,” Jesus wrote on his Instagram account on Wednesday morning.
“My friendly relations with the entire squad, club structure and Flamengo’s fans were decisive to touch my heart and spoke louder in my decision.
“Thank you all for your kindness and support.”

Considering the unstable nature of the Flamengo manager role, the 65-year-old faced a daunting task ahead of him.
Jesus’ arrival came as a shock to many, but the 65-year-old wiped those doubts away.
Asides improving the team as a whole, the Portuguese notably brought out the best from some of his players.
The most notable player improvement under Jesus was that of Gabriel Barbosa upfront. On loan from Inter after a disappointing season, the 23-year-old saw a brilliant 2019 campaign that saw him notch 34 goals in total.
His two goals in three minutes against River Plate would go on to be a season defining moment for Flamengo as it handed them their first Copa Libertadores trophy since 1981.
Jorge Jesus would go on to describe the trophy, as the most important win of his career and that will not come as a surprise considering the circumstances under which he won it.
The Portuguese has brought a new breath of fresh air into the Flamengo side and the contract extension is surely a positive step for the club in the right direction.
