Club World Cup champions Internacional will play Nacional of Uruguay, Emelec of Ecuador and either Argentina’s Velez Sarsfield or Danubio of Uruguay in the first round of the Copa Libertadores.

The reigning champions were placed in Group 4 on Wednesday for South America’s continental club championship beginning next month.

The 48th edition of the Copa Libertadores features 38 teams, 35 of them from South America and three from Mexico.

The preliminary phase will be played Jan. 24 through Feb. 7, with the six winners advancing to the second round that runs from Feb. 14 until April 25. The subsequent rounds conclude with final leg championship matches June 13 and June 20.
