English premier league team Everton have signed Brazilian midfielder Anderson de Silva.

A deal with Uruguayan side National Montevideo to acquire the player’s “federative and economic rights” was agreed in 2005. But they could not play the 24-year-old as he did not have an EU passport.

Everton chief executive Keith Wyness told the official website: “We have resolved the immigration issue and he has joined the club.”

He added: “The manager will be reviewing his progress over the next week or so.”

Everton were initially impressed by De Silva’s performances for Racing Santander.

But having failed to resolve the problem surrounding his passport, they allowed him to move to Malaga on a six-month loan.
