América is the second finalist of Guanabara Cup
After a 1-1 draw in normal time betweem América and Cabofriense the game was decided on penalties.
The match was equal with both teams evenly matched. Both sides respecting each other, but América began to take command, with a good performance from veterans Válber (100% success of passes) and Robert.
Cabofriense tried to equalize on counter-attacks and long distance shots from Esquerdinha and Anderson. Both teams had great chances to score in the first half, but only came close.
In the second half, Cabofriense began to play at a fast and offensive pace for the first 15 minutes. Then América took command of possesion again. In a superb moving from Robert and Julinho the first one scored for América on 23 minutes. Jorginho´s squad continued to dominate, but with the referee´s interference, Cabofriense made 1-1, with a dubious penalty. Teti took the ball in to the net on 38 minutes.
Final whistle: 1-1 draw. On penalties taking, ironically Têti missed the 5th one. América won 5-4 and after 20 years is going to be in the finals of an official tournament.
