Manchester United’s relationship with Sao Paulo appears to have paid dividends, as the English giants have jumped top of the list of Europe’s best clubs, trying to sign Cicinho.

The 25-year-old’s move appears to hinge on Cicinho’s gaining of an EU passport from Italy.

Sao Paulo’s director of sport Juvental Juvencio confirmed that they were open to the idea of selling the right back to The Red Devils.

“If Cicinho gets the Italian nationality by August 31 and the English club pay the transfer fee we are requesting then he will go,” said Juvencio on the club’s official website.

“Cicinho will come to training and we will await Manchester’s position regarding the negotiation.

“If they pay the buy-out clause he will go straight away. Otherwise negotiations will have to be done at the end of the month.

“If by then there is no agreement, because the transfer market will then be closed, we will have nothing further to discuss.

“Cicinho would then remain at Sao Paulo at least until the end of the year.”
