After the success of midfielder Giovanni’s return to Brazil, Santos’s board of directors think that the history could be repeated with other former players returning to the club.
President Marcelo Teixeira dreams of repatriating Diego and Renato, who both played for the club in 2002 when they were crowned champions of Brazil.
The most serious chances of a player returning would appear to be the ex-number 10, Diego, currently with FC Porto, where he hasn’t featured much in their starting 11. According to close relations’ of the player, negotiations are already under way.
Concerning Renato, the reality of the players situation is completely different. After a good season with FC Seville and now regularly selected for the national team, Renato had declared last June that he wished to return in Vila Belmiro but his departure seems more difficult, since beoming one of Seville’s msot valuable players.
