Fluminense missed the chance to join Botafogo top of the table after drawing with arch rivals Flamengo 0-0 in Rio de Janeiro.

The match had to be stopped for nearly 10 minutes in the first half after Flamengo striker Jean collapsed unconscious, prompting players and doctors from both teams to rush to his aid.

The crowd and officals were clearly worried they were witnessing a repeat of Sao Caetano defender Serginho death last season. Serginho had suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch during a game.

However Jean regained consciousness on his own a few minutes after collapsing, and doctors said he was suffering from hypoglycemia – more commonly known as low blood sugar.

Fluminense, unbeaten against Flamengo since February 2004, rested some of their players ahead of the Brazilian Cup semi-final against Ceara next week.
