Iconic São Paulo goalkeeper Rogério Ceni has agreed to extend his contract with the club for another year, it was revealed on Thursday evening.
Ceni, 39, was under contract until December this year and had admitted that he was considering calling it a day at the end of the season.
However, with São Paulo finishing the season in fine form and likely to be a major contender for the 2013 Copa Libertadores, Ceni’s team-mates have flocked to appeal for his continued presence at the Morumbi.
“It’s a great joy that we will continue to be able to call upon Rogério – an athlete who has great experience, is in great form and is an idol for all us São Paulo supporters,” director of football Adalberto Baptista told the club’s official website.
The goalkeeper has been a major figure in São Paulo’s success in recent years, winning three state Championships, three Brasileirão titles and a Club World Cup in his 1044 games for the club – during which he has scored 105 goals.
