Having wrapped up the Paulista championship last weekend São Paulo were defeated by Ponte Preta, at home on Saturday. Luizão put São Paulo in front at 5min before Roger scored in the 14th and 46th min. Despite the defeat São Paulo celebrated the title as they received the trophy in front of the their supporters.
Corinthian’s – inconsistent as ever – could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to Portuguesa. Fininho scoring in the 11th min of the first half to give them the lead before Washington equalised in the 28th min of the second half.
In Rio, on Sunday the winners of the Taça Guanabara played the winner of the Taça Rio, in the two leg game which decides who is State Champion. The game ended in an exciting 7 goal thriller, with victory going to Volta Redonda against Fluminense 3 -4. The goals provided from Preto Casagrande, Leandro, Leo Guerra, Adriano, Túlio (Pen), Leo Guerra and Tuta. The second leg will be played next Sunday.
