As the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024 comes to an end, the 2024 Brasileirão is just beginning to take shape. After 16 rounds, the teams in the relegation zone continue being the same, so they’re starting to seriously feel the fear of relegation.

Fluminense continue to struggle, and despite snatching a late away draw against Criciúma, it’s been months since their last win and remain in 20th place. Corinthians and Grêmio, also in trouble at the bottom, failed to secure three points and continue close to Flu in the worst part of the standings.

But at the other end of the table, there is also room for disappointment. Flamengo, who entered this round as leaders, got leapfrogged from the top spot after losing to Fortaleza at the Maracanã. Now, the leaders are Botafogo and Palmeiras, who won their respective matches on Matchday 16.
