The 2024 Brasileirão season kicked off and the first matchday was didn’t lack in controversies due to questionable officiating. The referees didn’t hesitate to take action and showed a total of 78 cards to players: 74 footballers were booked and four were sent off.
This marks a record in the last ten editions of the Brazilian championship. Yuri Elino, criticized for his refereeing in the draw between Corinthians and Atlético Mineiro, was the one who showed the most cards this weekend, with a total of 17 in the match: 10 for Timao and seven for Galo.
