São Bento and Palmeiras played out to a 1-1- draw in Volta Redonda on Wednesday night. The game marked for a late game of the third round of the Paulista Championship.
Diego Tavares broke the deadlock in the 24th minute while Gustavo Gómez drew level from the spot five minutes before the break.
Verdão did see the return of some their regulars, who starred in the club’s recent Copa do Brasil triumph. However, their game-plan was rocked when goalkeeper Weverton was given his marching orders just after 23 minutes on the pitched.
Regardless of the red card, Palmeiras showed good character to remain competitive and even gran an equalizer. After that, Verdão still remained the better side and even had chances to win the game. In the end, both teams had to settle for a point.

Palmeiras are now joint-leaders of Group C alongside Bragantino, with both sides on eight points. São Bento move up to two points but remain bottom of Group B.
There is no word on the next games for both teams. São Bento and Palmeiras would have to wait for a decision by the São Paulo Football Federation who continues their bid to move games to other states.
