The Lion opened the scoring with David and Sasha left everything level at the end of the first half. Bruno Melo headed for the goal and secured the victory by 2 to 1. The dispute remained a tight encounter until the end but Tricolor held on for the win
In surprising fashion, Fortaleza dominated the Brasileirão leaders at the start of the game.
Atlético-MG responded with offense and their best chance came in the 23rd minute, when Hyoran sent Felipe Alves to the right of the goal.
At 36, in a fast counterattack, Tinga played for David, who finished in Everson’s corner and scored again after twenty games. Fortaleza took a surprise lead.
Two minutes later, Felipe took the second yellow after a foul at Arana and was sent off. With one player advantage, Galo showed more offensive strength, and Eduardo Sasha grabbed the equalizer on 41 minutes.
In the second half, Fortaleza had a goal disallowed after a VAR review in the 65th minute before grabbing a crucial headed goal by Bruno in the 85th minute to secure all three points.
With the victory, Fortaleza are now up to 20 points and find themselves 9th in the Brasileirão, in the classification zone for the South American Championship. Atlético-MG remains isolated leader of the competition, with 27 points.
Next Saturday, Fortaleza will face Coritiba at Couto Pereira for the 15th round of the Brazilian Championship. On the same day, Atlético-MG hosts Goiás in Mineirão.
