Uruguay achieved its second victory in 13 games against Brazil in the Qualifiers. Their only previous victory was in July 2001, in the qualifiers for Korea and Japan, when they won 1-0, until today, the last Uruguayan victory against Brazil in all competitions.

It is Uruguay’s first victory by two or more goals against Brazil since 1983, when the Uruguayans won 2-0 in the first leg final of the Copa América.

Neymar injured

Neymar left the match against Uruguay before half-time, after a dispute for the ball with De la Cruz. The Al Hilal star left the field crying, suffering an apparent serious injury to his left knee. The striker, who left the Centenario stadium using crutches, must undergo tests in Brazil.

Standings

It was a bad week for Brazil in the FIFA international break. Before the defeat in Montevideo, the five-time world champions had drawn at home against Venezuela (1-1). With just one point in two games, the team led by Fernando Diniz now occupies third place in the South American qualifying tournament.
