Present in all nine editions of the competition, the national team won in the debut for the last time by such an elastic score in the Cup of China, in 2007.
On the occasion, Brazil beat New Zealand 5-0 in the opening round. That victory marked the start of the historic campaign of the national team in World Cups. With Formiga and Marta on the field, the team was runner-up, losing only to Germany in the final.
“I’m very satisfied with everything we’ve done so far. We’ve prepared very well, and as I said, I didn’t know how the younger players would play today. Living and talking to them in the pre-game in the locker rooms and during meals, I know it’s a happy team, that’s a good start,” said Pia Sundhage.
In Adelaide, Brazil took to the pitch a team renovated by Pia. Canarinho had nine athletes who entered the field for the first time in a World Cup match: Letícia, Antonia, Lauren, Bruninha, Duda Sampaio, Adriana, Gabi Nunes, Kerolin and Ary Borges. Among the 23 selected by Pia, 11 are given their first opportunity at World Cups.
By achieving a victory in Adelaide, Brazil maintained the record of always winning in the opening of the World Cup. With the victory, the team leads group F of the World Cup.
This Tuesday (25), the players who did not play in the victory against Panama trained. Then the delegation left for Brisbane. On Saturday (29), the Brazilians will face France, in the second round of the competition.
