Brazil will have a lot at stake when they face Colombia in Santa Clara tonight. On Matchday 3 of Group D of the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024, Dorival Júnior’s team will be looking to secure a spot in the next round.

To qualify for the quarterfinals, the Selecao need just one point. Therefore, a draw will be more than enough to advance to the next stage.

However, the Verdeamarela has an even greater goal, which is to win their group. To do so, they must defeat the Cafeteros, who head into the group stage finale as leaders with six points.

With a draw, Brazil will secure a place in the quarterfinals as the second in Group D. A victory, on the other hand, will allow them to be the group leader.

What if Brazil lose to Colombia?

If Brazil lose to Colombia, Dorival’s team will depend on the result between Costa Rica and Paraguay. If the Ticos win, the goal differential will come into play. Brazil have an advantage in that aspect unless they suffer a heavy defeat and Gustavo Alfaro’s team wins by several goals.

In any case, Brazil will automatically qualify if Costa Rica does not win, regardless of their own result against Colombia.
