Dorival Junior submitted on Friday (10) Brazil’s 23-man roster for the 2024 Copa America and the friendly matches prior to the tournament in June. The squad features several surprises and notable absences, including Neymar Jr.

The Al Hilal star is still recovering from a serious injury suffered in October 2023 against Uruguay, when he picked up a torn ACL in his left knee. While his absence is due to injury, there will be other stars who will not travel to the United States by decision of the coach.

Casemiro, for example, was not included as his level at Manchester United declined this season.

“Casemiro deserves the recognition of all of us. I spoke with him in Manchester three months ago and talked about his moment and that of his team. It doesn’t mean he’s ruled out. We will get in touch with him to explain what may happen in the future. He deserves consideration, affection, respect, and we believe in an athlete of this level,” said Dorival about the midfielder.

Another big absence is Richarlison’s, but according to the coach, the Tottenham forward suffered a new injury: “Richarlison had a calf injury, which was not officialized by the club, but we got in touch with the athlete and he informed us.”

Additionally, Dorival also decided to face this competition without Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal) and Antony (Manchester United).
