In the debut with a outstanding performance of the Brazilian Women’s National Team in the Women’s World Cup, Bia Zaneratto scored her first goal in World Cups. In her fourth participation in the competition, the experienced striker celebrated the goal, this Monday (24th), and commented on the difficulty she went through to have her name called by coach Pia Sundhage.

In April’s call-up for the Women’s Final against England and the friendly against Germany, Bia was left out of the second match due to an edema in her calf. And three weeks after the list was announced, she suffered a muscle injury while playing for Palmeiras and needed to focus on recovery to get a place in the World Cup.

“I’m very happy for the opportunity. It was very difficult to be here this time, because I had just been injured. I gave the best I could every day in training. The opportunity came and I knew how to take advantage of it”, she celebrated.

Fellow strikers at Palmeiras, Bia celebrated the hat-trick scored by Ary Borges, at the Hindmarsh stadium, in Adelaide, Australia, and praised the group’s quality and sense of community.

“Whoever Pia chooses will be well prepared, we come in a great moment and we don’t have that vanity. Whoever is inside the field will do their best. And I’m very happy for Ary, my longtime partner at Palmeiras. She assisted me with the heel, she could have finished, but she chose to give the pass, so I’m happy to have scored the goal”, she said.

Bia Zaneratto thanked the support that the delegation feels from Brazilians on social networks and in everyday life in Australia and remembered the moment of the national anthem played before the start of the match.

“It’s about continuing to support us so that we can feel this energy from Brazil. Today the anthem was too beautiful here, many people were moved at the time. We realized that there were many Brazilians in the stadium, so this energy cannot explain how delicious it is.”

Brazil’s next match will be on Saturday (29), against France, at 7 am (Brasília time), at the stadium in Brisbane, Australia.
