In a statement, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed that Neymar suffers from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus. The incident happened during the match against Uruguay last Tuesday, in the World Cup qualifiers (Brazil was defeated 2-0).

This type of injury generally requires immobilization for at least six months. The rehabilitation process could, however, extend this period of unavailability. In the worst case scenario, Neymar could therefore miss the end of the season with his club Al Hilal and see his preparation for the 2024 Copa América compromised.

Upset by this new ordeal after only four months back on the field following his previous major ankle injury, the player spoke out on social networks. He expressed his despondency in the face of this situation and his determination to get back on his feet thanks to the support of his family and friends.

The medical departments of Brazil and Al Hilal are in close contact to define the course of action regarding the operation and rehabilitation. The Saudi club also showed its solidarity by wishing a speedy recovery to its star striker.

Neymar is determined to overcome this new ordeal

On his Twitter account, Neymar expressed his distress at this new injury after only a few months of returning to competition. He recognizes that this period will be particularly difficult to overcome psychologically, after all the efforts made to recover from his previous ankle injury. The Brazilian player knows that he will have to demonstrate unfailing mental strength to get through this ordeal. As he said: “It’s a very sad moment, the worst. I know I am strong but this time I will need the support of my family and friends even more.” Neymar thanks his loved ones who will give him all their support in the long months of rehabilitation to come. He also puts his trust in God to help him overcome this ordeal and return to the fields, his passion, as quickly as possible. This poignant message reflects the dejection of No. 10 after this new twist of fate which slows down his career.
