The last American champion added another reinforcement. The 19-year-old attacker Marquinhos arrived on loan to Fluminense from the English Arsenal for one year and with an option to purchase.

“I’m very happy. It is a great opportunity in my career to be able to represent the Fluminense uniform. “I am very happy and I hope we write a beautiful story, with titles and many victories,” said the footballer, who wore number 10 in the U-23 team that could not qualify for the next Olympic Games.

“Fluminense is a club that aspires to great things and that is what made me come here. The objective of the season is to win as many titles as possible. If we can win the Libertadores for the second time, it would be wonderful,” he told the club’s official media.

Emerging in São Paulo, in mid-2022 Marquinhos was transferred to Arsenal. But he played little (scoring a goal and giving an assist in six appearances), so he was loaned to Norwich City first and to FC Nantes during the last semester.

Fluminense’s reinforcements for this season

The team led by Fernando Diniz leads the Carioca Championship with 18 points after five wins and three draws, although its eternal rival, Flamengo, can pass it in the table if it wins the pending match. The classic is scheduled for next February 25.

Furthermore, starting in April Flu will seek to defend its title in the Libertadores and fight well at the top in the Brasileirao. To do so, he maintained a large part of his base of players and incorporated seven to the squad: in addition to Marquinhos, Douglas Costa, Renato Augusto, Terans, Gabriel Pires, Antonio Carlos and Felipe Alves joined.
