Brazil’s coach, Dorival, must decide who will lead the attack. Before the June 8th friendly against Mexico, he will choose the player to join Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo on the frontline in the team’s typical 4-3-3 formation. And Endrick is in the spotlight for this role.

Iconic No. 9

There are signs the young Brazilian striker could start. He was given the iconic number nine jersey for the upcoming Copa America, a number worn by legendary strikers like Ronaldo and Tostao.

Notably, Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison, previous wearers of the number nine, are not in the squad this time. This move shows strong confidence in his ability to lead Brazil’s attack.

Endrick’s record so far

Adding to this, Endrick has excelled in his limited time with the senior team. Previously wearing number 21, he scored in each of his four appearances.

His performance included a goal at Wembley against England, securing a win for Brazil under Dorival. These outings make a compelling case for his starting role against Mexico.

Endrick’s injury

While he could start, Endrick’s earlier injury at Palmeiras raises concerns about his readiness. During one of Palmeiras’ latest Copa Libertadores matches, Endrick had to be carried off the field on a stretcher.

There were no players near him when he fell and seemed to be in a lot of pain. The initial checkup suggested he might have torn a muscle in his right leg, and he could need up to three weeks to recover. This was March 16th.

Still, with the Copa America looming and Endrick set to join Real Madrid next month, his rapid ascent is clear. His decisive goals against England and Spain earlier this year proved his potential.

Remembering Zagallo

Sambafoot Series launched a new documentary about the football legend Zagallo. Known as ‘Velho Lobo‘ and as superstitious as it gets, Zagallo helped shape what Brazilian football is nowadays — as a player and as a coach.
